Chapter 7

Jnana Vijnana Yoga

"The Yoga of Knowledge and Realization"

Chapter 7 begins Krushna's revelation of His divine nature. He explains the difference between theoretical knowledge (jnana) and practical realization (vijnana) of the Supreme Truth.

🌟 Krushna's Divine Nature

Krushna reveals that He is the Supreme Reality—the source and essence of everything.
He has two natures: the lower material nature (prakriti) and the higher spiritual nature (para prakriti).
The material world is His external energy; souls are His internal energy.
Everything rests on Him like pearls strung on a thread.

"All this universe is pervaded by Me in My unmanifest form. All beings exist in Me, but I am not confined in them." (Verse 12)

🌊 The Elements of Creation

Krushna describes Himself as the essence of all elements: the taste in water, light in the moon and sun, sacred syllable Om in Vedas.
He is the fragrance in earth, the heat in fire, the life in all beings, and the intelligence in the intelligent.
All qualities and energies are manifestations of His divine power.

"I am the taste in water, the light in the moon and sun, the sacred syllable Om in all the Vedas, the sound in ether, and the ability in humans." (Verse 8)

🎭 The Power of Maya (Illusion)

Krushna's divine maya (illusive power) deludes the entire world.
People fail to recognize His true divine nature because they are bewildered by the three gunas (sattva, rajas, tamas).
Only those who surrender to Him can cross beyond this divine maya.
Maya is almost insurmountable, but devotion to Krushna provides the way across.

"This divine maya of Mine, consisting of the three gunas, is difficult to overcome. But those who surrender unto Me can easily cross beyond it." (Verse 14)

👥 Four Types of Devotees

The Distressed (arta): Those who seek Krushna for relief from suffering.
The Seeker of Knowledge (jijnasu): Those who want to understand the truth.
The Seeker of Wealth (artharthi): Those who desire material prosperity.
The Wise (jnani): Those who have realized Krushna's true nature and love Him unconditionally.

"Among these four, the wise one who is in constant union with Me and devoted to Me alone is the best. I am very dear to the wise, and he is very dear to Me." (Verse 17)

🌙 Rare Knowledge and Devotion

Among thousands, scarcely one strives for perfection, and among those who achieve it, hardly one knows Krushna in truth.
Those who worship demigods receive temporary benefits, but Krushna's devotees attain the eternal.
People with materialistic desires approach various demigods, but the wise worship Krushna alone.
Krushna promises that at the time of death, those who remember Him will come to Him.

"After many births and deaths, he who is actually in knowledge surrenders unto Me, knowing Me to be the cause of all causes and all that is. Such a great soul is very rare." (Verse 19)
